Howard Eisenberg President Howard brings over 20 years of extensive operational experience in high technology companies. He has held management positions and started up operations in various industries including microelectronics, power electronics and motors for electric vehicles, fiber optics and material handling equipment before founding United Sortation Solutions. Howard brings with him enthusiasm and creativity to tackle each new challenge. Over 25 years ago, in his high school yearbook Howard's motto was "only those that attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible." This drives him and the company today to bring creative solutions to the marketplace. Howard first started in the material handling industry while working for Westinghouse Electric Corp. In 1996 he joined Crisplant, a provider of high speed sortation solutions, where he quickly moved to the position of Vice President of Operations. He and his team grew the operation into a highly successful and profitable company by always focusing on meeting and exceeding the customers' expectations. During his career, he has held positions in program management, manufacturing, quality assurance, marketing and engineering. Howard holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Buffalo, an MS in Financial Management from Johns Hopkins University and an MS in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Stanford University. When he is not running USS, Howard is Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 757 in Glenwood, Maryland. He also enjoys spending time with his family - hiking, backpacking, and watching his sons play hockey, tennis and lacrosse.
Ellen Eisenberg Vice President Ellen began her career in 1988 in the Human Resources field as an Employment Specialist with Manpower Temporary Services. She then moved to the bio-analytical industry with jobs in sales and customer service. Following the birth of her two children, Ellen returned to school and earned her Masters degree in Instructional Design. She taught various grades and content areas in Howard County, Maryland. Ellen was instrumental in the early foundation of United Sortation Solutions with her International Trade and Sales background, working nights when the company began. Once USS reached critical mass, Ellen left her job in education to take on full time the Financial Management and Human Relations responsibilities within USS. Ellen brings her compassion combined with her analytical ability to United Sortation Solutions. Ellen holds a BS degree in Business Administration/International Trade from the University of Buffalo and a MS degree in Instructional Design from the University of Maryland. Ellen enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, hiking, kayaking and gardening.
Joe Joice Vice President With twelve years of customer-oriented and project-based management experience, Joe brings a proactive, hands-on approach to each customer's toughest distribution problems. While working in Great Britain, Denmark and the United States, he successfully implemented a variety of difficult material handling solutions in the baggage handling, e-commerce, and courier industries. These projects included Amazon.com, Federal Express, Target Stores and the United States Postal Service. Having worked in facilities and manufacturing maintenance management, as well as commissioning engineering management, Joe was instrumental in building core customer relations for some of the material handling industry's most prominent leaders. Joe works directly with the customer to fully understand the impact of automated equipment on the current workflow and existing equipment and personnel. This approach enables the customer to understand and anticipate the overall scope of the project, maintenance and operator training involved. Joe holds a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and is a certified Achieve Global Facilitator. Joe also enjoys traveling and black and white photography.
John Mertz Senior Engineer John's career started as a quality and manufacturing supervisor at an automotive electrical device manufacturer. He then moved to Crisplant, where he was responsible for electrical engineering and control of Sortation accessories such as inductions and chutes. John left Crisplant to move to an Electrical controls subcontractor where he gained valuable experience designing control systems for a wide variety of equipment including pharmaceutical, corrugated manufacturing and elevators and escalators. John graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in History and English Literature. He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University. In his free time, John likes to work on old cars and spend time with his wife, three daughters, and one son.
Dave Roddy Field Support Manager Dave brings over 30 years of strong and diverse experience in the material handling industry including many years of focus specifically on advanced automation sortation systems. In 1975 Dave was the installation superintendent for Acco Industries Inc. where he got his first taste of high speed sortation. Through the years he has worked in various roles within the material handling industry. These roles have included Equipment Manager, Regional Sales Manager, Project Manager and most recently Dave was the Installation Manager at Crisplant during Crisplant's years of rapid growth. Dave brings experience, proven management and analytical skills, as well as attention to detail to the team. As the systems support manager Dave is responsible for the long term quality and functionality of the EuroSort equipment installed at our customer sites.
Ed Hrehocik Senior Engineer Ed has designed and implemented many solutions for distribution and material handling customers. His focus has always been on the mechanical design aspects of a project and has a uniquely broad experience base to draw from. Ed's material handling career started at Crisplant a/s, a leading supplier of Tilt Tray and Cross Belt Sorters, where he was extensively trained in Denmark prior to returning to the US to lead the production design group at Crisplant Inc. After leaving Crisplant, Ed spent his time designing for Beumer Corporation and then Mantissa Corporation, both high quality sortation companies. His broad experience enables him easy recognition of problems and their corresponding solutions by using solid cost effective design principles. Ed is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is trained, certified and has over a decade of design experience using numerous CAD systems. In his spare time, Ed enjoys automobiles, flying, or just doing some small home improvement project.
Jeff Zerr Director of Engineering Since graduating from the University of Maryland in 1986 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Jeff has been involved in a wide array of custom designed machinery. His background and experience spans robotics, machine vision, material handling and custom automation of all sorts. In fact, Jeff was named as co-inventor in a US patent for a robotic manufacturing method. Jeff's broad background has also led him to become proficient in several programming languages, including Visual Basic and a variety of proprietary motion controllers. The equipment Jeff has designed and built automates and optimizes various industries such as automotive, telecommunications, biotech and consumer electronics. Throughout his career, he has served in both technical and managerial roles and has had the opportunity to travel throughout North America, as well as to Europe, South America and Asia. At home Jeff enjoys spending time with his family in rural Frederick County. He is a leader with his son's cub scout pack and his hobbies include home improvement, photography and biking.
Darius Scott Senior Mechanical Engineer Since 1983, Darius has held a variety of technical and managerial positions over a broad range of projects and industries. His career has moved from robotics system integration, industrial machine tool and pharmaceutical equipment design, to Architectural Millwork engineering, manufacturing and information systems. At each phase of his career and in each role, practical application of automated systems and products has been a common theme. His creative approach to design, combined with a strong ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts has not only made Darius a valuable asset in designing machinery and systems, but has consistently found him in contact with customers as an applications specialist and part of important sales or training efforts. His machine design experience covers high-speed precision machine tools and fixtures, liquid filling and capping equipment, robotic tooling, and furniture design for automated manufacturing. He has also written proprietary manufacturing and engineering database applications. Darius holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University. His ability to articulate ideas extends to the current tools of the trade. He is a certified instructor of AutoCAD has countless years of experience implementing CAD systems within organizations. He is formally trained in the use of several other CAD systems notably, AutoDesk Inventor. Jason Bard Project Manager Jason began his extensive career in the material handling industry in 1991 while serving in the United States Navy, onboard the USS John F. Kennedy. In his drive for learning and achievement, he quickly surpassed his military peers in education and advancement. He attended college for both engineering and business management and became a Raymond Certified Technician. Jason holds certifications in aviation electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatics. After 4 years in the military, Jason continued his education and utilized his Raymond certification at The Werres Corporation, a Raymond forklift and Rapistan conveyor supplier. After 3 years of broadening his industry knowledge at Werres with electronic and LP powered lift equipment, wire guided vehicles, and conveyor systems, Jason chose to expand his experience further into material sortation by accepting a position with Crisplant Inc., now FKI Logistex. After his initial training in Denmark, Jason spent several years excelling as a Commissioning Engineer in the U.S. and abroad. He then transitioned into the role of Electrical Project Manager. Recognized for his hands-on product knowledge, untiring sense of urgency, and proven leadership skills, Jason was promoted within FKI Logistex to Project Manager. During his 4 year tenure as PM, he successfully managed all aspects of complex, high profile material handling projects for such clients as Aldo Shoes, Finishline, Barnes & Noble, and Merck, among others, in both the United States and Canada. Always striving to deliver while building and maintaining strong partnerships, Jason brings integrity and a solid reputation to the industry as a material handling professional.
George Edward Kunhardt Controls Engineer/Project Manager After obtaining his B.S. in Electrical Engineering in the Dominican Republic, Edward underwent specialized electronics training as part of the initial group of engineers selected to provide technical support to the national airport radar system. After that, he initially worked in the industrial free zone as Production Supervisor for electronic products assembly and later as Maintenance Supervisor for the plant's automated testing equipment, while at the same time pursuing a post graduate degree in Total Quality Management and dwelling in computer programming. He also served in the Dominican Army as a commissioned officer in the engineer corps, and received additional electronics training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. In 1997 Edward moved to the U.S., to work as Commissioning Engineer for sortation systems for Crisplant, Inc. He trained in Denmark, and went on to supervise projects including the Swedish postal service, the U.S. postal service, Amazon.com, MarMaxx, and The Gap. In 2001 he went to work for Corvis Corp. as a software engineer and supervisor of the Test & Measure of optical Fiber Bragg Gratings. Most recently, he was the on-site project manager for two of the largest automated baggage sortation systems ever installed, located in Brussels and the new T4 at Madrid Barajas International Airport. Besides his technical knowledge, Edward's main strength is his ability to communicate directly with the client and understand their specific needs and demands. Because of his extensive computer knowledge, he works closely along software engineers to ensure proper client requirements and equipment functionality. In addition, as a native Spanish speaker, he is able to provide bilingual assistance whenever needed. Outside of work and computers, Edward's passion is with go-fast machines that he was introduced to by his father, R. Kunhardt, who was a General (Pilot) in the Dominican Air Force and the Leader of the last active P-51 squadron in the world.
Rick Steinebrunner Director of Production Rick brings 30 years of manufacturing experience to the team at United Sortation Solutions. His career began as a machinist/machine builder for job shops and machinery manufacturers before joining Martin Marietta. While there, he was responsible for machining close tolerance parts for R & D, production and manufacturing support. Rick spent 10 years with Martin Marietta before moving on to Marsilli North America, an automation supplier for the electronics industry. At Marsilli, Rick's duties required extensive customer contact with engineering and production departments. His responsibilities quickly grew to include installations, training and service in manufacturing facilities throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. As Director of Production at United Sortation Solutions, Rick is responsible for managing assembly, receiving inspection, machine shop, and warehouse areas of the company. As a former moto-cross racer, Rick is an avid race fan and still enjoys riding his dirt bike. Rick has been riding mountain bikes for the last 15 years and rides whenever he gets a chance.
Greg Meyer Director of Sales & Marketing Since graduating from Miami University in 1988 with a BS in Marketing, Greg has enjoyed a dynamic 19 year sales, sales management and marketing career. Of the 19 years, 17 have been spent in the material handling/logistics establishing strategic partnerships with system integrators, key accounts, manufacturer's representatives, wholesalers and specialty dealers. These mutually successful partnerships have led to increased revenues at Dehnco Equipment, Calstone Inc, Edsal Manufacturing and now EuroSort Inc. (a subsidiary owned by United Sortation Solutions). Greg joined EuroSort Inc in 2004 as Director of Sales and Marketing and has been instrumental in growing the business to its current levels. The future is bright at EuroSort and USS as many new partnerships, new products and additional high quality staff are hired to serve the US marketplace. Outside of growing EuroSort, Greg enjoys running, coaching and spending time with his young family.
